Oobi episode talk: Uma Swing!

The part of the blog where I talk about the episodes from the perspective of a seasoned "Oobi mom." I've seen every episode at least 3 or 4 times, so I've noticed a lot of little tidbits about them.

Second up is "Uma Swing!" According to the Nick Jr. Press website, this was one of the first two long-form episodes to play on TV.

The Story: Uma is excited to be at the playground, so she doesn't listen to Oobi about being careful on the swings and falls off. Oobi helps Uma regain her confidence by having fun on other equipment until she is ready to enjoy the swings safely.

Memorable Moment: Uma gets very protective of Oobi. When she thinks that he got hurt on the slide, she scolds it for being a bad slide. "Bad slide. BAD slide!!"

Random Fact: The kind of swings in the episode are specially made so that kids' legs are secure, making sure they don't fall out. Uma is only able to fall because she's a hand!

Oobi episode talk: Uma Bathroom!

My episode guide is still the most popular page on the blog, so I've decided to do something related: Oobi episode talk! I'll be talking about the episodes from the perspective of a seasoned "Oobi mom." I've seen every episode at least 3 or 4 times, so I've noticed a lot of little tidbits about them.

First up is "Uma Bathroom," one of the funniest episodes of the whole show, and probably one of the weirdest to look at out of context.

The Story: After an enjoyable day of playing with Oobi and Kako in the mud, Uma objects to taking a bath but soon learns that bath time can be fun when you add a dance and game to bathroom activities.

Memorable Moment: Uma is funny throughout the whole thing, but she gets some hilarious lines in one of the 'real kids' segments. "Look Zoe! Little toilet! Zoe use toilet?" Zoe:"Yes." Uma: "WHAT KINDA TOILET?" (Zoe looks baffled) Uma: "Grown-up toilet?" Zoe: "Child toilet." Uma: "Uma like FLUSH toilet." (Does impression of toilet flushing.) Zoe (fascinated): "Yeah, and the water goes around and down, like a waterfall or something."

Random Fact: Near the sink, there are framed photos of Grampu and the kids. Look closely-- they have their old eyes from the early Oobi Shorts! So those photos must have been taken back in 1999 when the show was first starting out. A callback that most people would probably miss.

Shane Dawson talks about Oobi!

Have you heard of Shane Dawson? Chances are, if you have a teenaged kid in your house, you already know all about him. If not, well, he's a YouTube star who gets well over a million views on each video. He does comedy skits and parodies where he plays all the characters himself. In a video from earlier this month, he talked about Oobi and Grampu. He even did a pseudo-Oobi impression! Check it out here!

And thank you to iimaniifiiasco for sending the video to me!!

Nick Jr.'s still got it!

The Noggin Network was just replaced by Nick Jr. at the beginning of the week. Ethan has outgrown most of their shows so I didn't know until today. Sure enough, the Noggin shows are still played in reruns, with Oobi on twice a day in the morning! Not sure if it will get a regular timeslot like it had on Noggin, but it's nice to see that the "new channel" is more like a refresh of the same old Noggin...

Oobi is now in Polish!

Nickelodeon Poland is now airing a Polish-dubbed version of Oobi! It's called "RÄ…czusie" which roughly translates to "little hands" in English. According to their website, it debuted on July 19 and is airing every Sunday.

This news article talks a bit about it. Apparently, Nickelodeon Poland shows the episodes without a channel logo in the corner. Maybe that's common over there, but I've never seen that before.

The studio that dubbed the voices is called Start International Poland. I wonder why they're dubbing it now when most of the other countries did their dubs of Oobi a few years ago. Maybe it was hard for them to translate the super-simple "Oobi speak" into Polish? Or wouldn't that make it easier to translate? I don't know, it's just great that the Poles are able to share Oobi with their kids!!

UPDATE: More fan pages and my new blog!

I was checking the pageviews again and it looks like the Oobi info posts get way more clicks than my personal story pages. I guess most of you are following mainly for updates and news about Oobi!

So I'm going to turn this blog into an Oobi fansite. I won't change much-- I'll just add more non-blog pages with photos, info, downloads and more. So instead of just a blog, this will be a one-stop spot for Oobi goodness!!

Here is a rundown of the non-blog pages so far:

I'm also starting up a new blog where I'll put my ramblings about parenting and the library. Give it a follow if you want to keep up! Check it out here!! (Click link)

Watching Oobi

JessicaE148 sent me this clip of her kids watching Oobi. Apparently it's universal-- kids love the "Dirty!" song that Uma sings!
